Bringing Back Bergere

Bergere chairs are a stunning staple of early 19th century French design with a timeless appeal that is more desirable than ever today. This versatile chair is an investment piece that looks good in virtually any room.  While it’s a traditional piece, there are fabulous ways to make it more current, from the colour finish to the fabric choice.

A painted frame will make your Bergere chair far less traditional than the stained wood frame. Try an interesting colour to really spruce it up! Another fun way to add wow factor is to upholster the back of the chair in a large scale pattern, but keep the front more practical with a simple and easy to maintain fabric. A Bergere chair doesn’t need to be limited to your living room or a formal setting. Try using it in an unusual way, like at the head of a dining table or in your bathroom for a touch of whimsy and elegance.
